Yoga Teacher Training leading to the new level 4  BWYQ Diploma in Teaching Yoga
 
The next level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga course will start September 2012 with introductory days late spring/summer 2012


The British Wheel of Yoga
(BWY) is recognised by  Sport England as a Governing Body for yoga and is the largest yoga organisation in the country. The BWY Yoga Teachers' Diploma was a very highly regarded teaching qualification.  It was regarded by many as the 'gold standard' for yoga teacher training. With the new level 4 BWYQ Diploma in Teaching Yoga course the standards have been set even higher! It is currently the only yoga teacher training course available at level 4 within the National Qualification and Credit Framework. This means the qualification is nationally accepted and rigorously monitored.


The course will meet will meet approximately monthly,on Saturday and Sundays over a period of just over two years. Sometimes the meetings will be just on Saturdays.  A considerable amount of home study is involved.The course is demanding, challenging, fun, enjoyable and possibly a life-changing experience.


Pre Course Requirements
  • Applicants will have a minimum of three years regular class attendance with a recognised teacher, and will preferably have BWY foundation course or equivalent experience.
  • A high level of commitment to learning is essential.
  • Reasonable IT skills are needed. All  written work is presented and assessed electronically, therefore simple word processing skills are needed along with regular email communication.
  • There is also a prerequisite of a recognised Anatomy and Physiology qualification. The BWY is able to offer a course "Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga" which fits the bill nicely and is assessed online via multichoice questions. This can be completed before commencement of the course or within the first 3 months.

Course Details

The Diploma Course covers the theory, practice and teaching of Yoga, including the following topics:
Anatomy & Physiology.
The preparation, practice , modification and teaching of asana.
Common ailments and special needs of individual students.
Simple breathing and relaxation.
Pranayama.
Mudra, bandha and kriya.
History and context of Yoga.
Study of traditional texts including Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita.
Course planning and lesson planning.
Theory of teaching and professional studies.
 



Application Procedures
Download an application form here and return to Terri.  If your application is suitable, you will be invited to a free  course information evening in Durham with a small group of other applicants. Here you will have a chance to find out all about the course in detail. If you then wish to continue with your application you will be given some pre-course study and paperwork and then you will be invited to a Course Induction Day. There is a fee of £45 for this day which is returnable if your application is subsequently turned down.
